Description
The Office of Fossil Energy?s Fuel Cell program involves the management of a portfolio of Solid State Energy Conversion Alliance projects. This Funding Opportunity Announcement is focused on the Solid State Energy Conversion Alliance Core Technology Program, comprising universities, national laboratories, small businesses, and other Research and Development organizations, and addresses basic Research and Development and technological issues critical to the commercialization of solid oxide fuel cells. The Solid State Energy Conversion Alliance Core Technology Program Funding Opportunity Announcement is part of an initiative in support of the Office of Fossil Energy's Fuel Cell Program goals and Department of Energy Strategic Goals and Program Mission Needs. This Funding Opportunity Announcement is required to facilitate the development of solid oxide fuel cells that operate on coal derived synthesis gas fuels and to address the need for engi
neering scientific solutions to the technical challenges and barriers faced by Solid State Energy Conversion Alliance Industry Teams, with specific emphasis on enhancing the reliability, robustness and endurance of Solid Oxide Fuel Cell stacks to commercially viable levels, while maintaining Solid State Energy Conversion Alliance cost reduction goals. The results of the Research and Development are available to all Industry Teams, ensuring broad technology development, avoiding the duplication of Research and Development activities, and ultimately leading to commercialization of Solid Oxide Fuel Cell based stationary power generation systems that will foster and maintain U.S. leadership in this emerging high technology field.
