Executive Order 14222 (2025)

Executive Order: Department of Government Efficiency Cost Efficiency Initiative (2025)

Executive Order 14222, titled Implementing the President's ‘Department of Government Efficiency’ Cost Efficiency Initiative, was signed in 2025 to improve transparency and accountability in federal spending. The order mandates that federal agencies adopt standardized practices for reviewing and approving contracts, grants, and loans to reduce redundancy and improve oversight.

Key Objectives:

  • Promote cost efficiency and eliminate duplicative administrative processes.

  • Enhance oversight of federal financial assistance programs.

  • Strengthen accountability to the public by increasing transparency into federal grant opportunities.

Role of Grants.gov

While Executive Order 14222 does not explicitly reference Grants.gov, the Grants.gov platform plays a supportive role in implementing related pre-award improvements aligned with the broader goals of the Executive Order. Under this directive, federal grant-making agencies must coordinate with the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) and the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) to ensure that Notices of Funding Opportunities (NOFOs) with Synopsis undergo an OMB Review process before being made available to the public on Grants.gov via ‘Search Grants’.

This Executive Order builds on prior federal efforts to promote transparency, enhance cost-efficiency, and streamline government operations to deliver better value and reduce the burden on taxpayers.
